Virtual reality and Theatres

In recent years technologies such as VR and AR have been used to enhance the way the cinema works. In this project, we shifted the focus from the production to the training, using VR to enhance how theatre actors percieve themselves on stage. In cooperation with the famous La Pergola theatre of Florence, we conducted many experiments where actors recorded their performances with a MoCap suit and could subsequently review them in VR. In one experiment we had two actors performing asynchronously on stage: the first one recorded their performance with the MoCap suit, and the other one completed the scene in a later stage using VR and once again the suit. Results showed that actors could better review their performances with VR than with any other digital support, as they could notice every single movement they performed from many different points of view.
