This project was under extremely strict NDA clauses, I’ll try my best to get to describe it without giving anything away. Bear with me.
During my time at Directive Games, we were approached by an external business who had a successful multiplayer experience where players could build and share their own worlds. However, they developed the game internally for many years using Unity, and were not happy about the state of their client. They therefore approached us to build an Unreal version of their game to evaluate a potential switch.
The project lasted around 4 months, and we reached the desired goal of building a fully functioning copy-cat version of their game in Unreal. What happened next on a higher level was outside my pay grade.
Regarding my role in the project, I was essentially the only person working on the UI. I had to build the whole UI system using the new Unreal UMG ViewModel, from the home page to the level editor HUD. I am sorry I can’t share any screenshot here, the main menu had some really interesting effects, and the gameplay HUD was pretty smooth.
