Off The Grid is not just an amazing battle royale, it is also the first AAA game I worked on!
When I joined, the team was composed of only two other developers, who found themselves having an increasingly high workload. The whole UX/UI team was trying to both optimize the existing HUD, expand it to cover new game modes, and create a second version of the HUD altogether.
As soon as I joined, I had to refactor a few widgets from what we called “HUD V1”, which were bleeding performances due to legacy code and widget structure that was created by programmers who didn’t have a lot of training in UI structuring.

Once I was done, I was moved to the “HUD V2” creation, taking care of four areas in particular: weapons panel, minimap, cyberlimbs, and kill log.
Unfortunately, just as the HUD was completed, the company decided to have a big round of layoffs and the whole HUD team was made redundant, but at least we got it finished!
The new HUD is scheduled to be released soon, I’ll be happy to provide screenshots as soon as they are published!
